When our membership secretary, Donna Hambling got wedged in a theme park ride, it was one of the most embarassing things that had ever happened to her. Donna, a Lupus sufferer, who is registered disabled, said "I was on holiday in Derbyshire with my family, including my sister's children and we decided to spend the day at a theme park. I whelchair so I couldn't do very much, but when I saw the swing boat ride I said 'Come on kids, I'll go on with you,' and on we went." But when the safety bar came down to secure them in their seats, it hit Donna so hard in the stomach, it winded her. She said "My brother in law saw my face go green and he called for the bars to be lifted, but when they were pulled up, everyone's liften except mine - it had got stuck in the rolls of fat on my stomach. It was so humiliating. Everyone was looking at me, and I made up my mind there and then that I had to do something about my weight." In April 2005, a friend suggested Slimming World and she has never looked back. She has lost over four and a half stone and has dropped in size from a size 28 to a size 18 and she is still determined to lose even more weight. Her eating habits have changed. Instead of skipping breakfast, she now has weetabix and two kinds of fresh fruit and says it is important to eat regularly. Her Slimming World consultant says that Donna is a changed person. She has a great sense of humour and helps with the weighing procedures every week. Our congratulations go out to Donna along with our thanks for all her hard work for the Norfolk Lupus Group; all the time while working so hard to reduce her weight. She is a shining example to us all. |
